Hour Two · The 8-Hour Business Launch Master Plan
02

Validate Demand & Research

Confirm money is already moving in the category, pick the fulfillment model, and pressure-test the idea against real customers before anything gets built.

Research each idea with hard data — search volume, sales velocity, trend curves, and what actual customers are complaining about.

Part of the idea-consideration process is understanding the distribution / fulfillment model:

  1. Website sales with print-on-demand — lowest risk, thin margins
  2. Website sales with drop-shipping — low risk, slow shipping, low margins
  3. Wholesale by website or sales reps — mid risk, better margins
  4. Custom products distributed directly or through distributors — highest effort, best margins
  5. Software distribution — App Store, free trial

Ascertain which is the best idea by using the research and trend tools below; some tools in Hour 1 may still be applicable — the toolset builds each hour. Time to decide on one or two ideas.

Marketplace validation
What's actually selling, right now
Amazon Best Sellers
Free, real-time view of what's actually selling
Etsy Search
Best for handmade, gift, or design-driven categories
Keepa
Amazon price and sales-rank history (catches fake "trending" products)
Trend & signal validation
Is the curve rising or falling?
TikTok Creative Center
See which products are going viral on TikTok right now
Google Trends
Confirm the category isn't seasonal or declining
Talk to humans (cheap & fast) — who might know about the demand or issues with execution
Founder-grade expert calls — not the $1,000/hr GLG variety
Intro.co
15–60 min calls with vetted experts; ~$50–$300/call. No subscription. Built for founders, not hedge funds.
Clarity.fm
Per-minute pricing across 50,000+ advisors. More breadth, less curation than Intro.
Tegus / AlphaSense
We have access. 100,000+ existing expert call transcripts plus AI-powered search across SEC filings, broker research, and news. Read first, call second — saves money and time.
LinkedIn cold outreach
Free. Message 20 people who currently sell similar products with three sharp questions. ~10% response rate from category experts. Highest signal-to-cost ratio that exists.
Customer interviews
Pay your target customer to talk to you for 30 minutes
UserInterviews.com
Recruit and pay target customers $30–$100 for 15–30 min interviews. Five interviews bookable in 48 hours. Probably the highest-ROI validation tool that exists.
Respondent.io
Same model as UserInterviews, more B2B-focused. Use this if the buyer is a professional, not a consumer.
Wynter
B2B audience research and message testing; on-demand panels of professionals. Best for landing-page copy testing.
Pre-launch demand testing
Try to sell it before you build it — the only validation that costs nothing if you fail
Carrd
$19/yr. Build a one-page "fake door" landing page describing the product, run $200 of ads at it, measure click-to-buy conversion before anything is built.
Unbounce
Heavier landing-page builder if Carrd is too minimal. Includes A/B testing and form analytics.
Kickstarter
Real money commitment from real people is the strongest validation that exists. Best for physical products with a story.
Pollfish
200 targeted survey responses for ~$200. Useful for sizing demographic interest, but lower signal than a real fake-door test.
Testing, Social listening & pain mining
Find the exact language customers use to describe a problem
GummySearch
Reddit audience research — surfaces pain points and the words people use
F5Bot
Free — emails you when keywords appear on Reddit or Hacker News
Syften
Real-time monitoring of forums and communities for keywords
Devi AI · PainOnSocial · SubReddit Stats · X Pro
Additional pain-mining and social-listening tools
Once a product or service is picked, schedule thisCadence: Daily or weekly · Trigger: Recurring schedule
CoWork can do
  • Pull top posts from 5–10 target subreddits matching pain-point keywords
  • Pull Reddit and X mentions of competitor brands or category keywords
  • Drop a summarized digest into a Word doc, Notion page, or email
  • Surface a steady stream of customer language for ad copy, content ideas, and product gaps
  • Track competitor pricing on the hero product or offering weekly
Notes
  • Zero human hours after setup — F5Bot and Syften both have webhook/email outputs that plug into this cleanly
Setup cost: ~45 minutes once. Daily human time after that: ~5 minutes to skim the digest.
